Cook the Ribeye Bistek

Make the Sautéed Spinach

  • Canola Oil 30.0 ml
  • Minced Onions 45.0 g
  • Garlic, minced 30.0 g
  • Spinach, blanched and chopped 180.0 g
  • Salt And Pepper, To Taste

Assemble the Bistek Sandwich

  • Sourdough Slices, buttered and toasted lightly 2.0 pc
  • Kesong Puti Slices 60.0 g
  • Crispy Onions 30.0 g
  • Chopped Fresh Spring Onions 5.0 g

A Filipino take on the Philly cheesesteak, this bistek recipe features ribeye slices served on open-faced sandwiches. After marinating in a classic bistek sauce and being seared to perfection, the beef is layered with sweet caramelized onions, kesong puti, and crispy fried onions. Add it to your menu to satisfy guests craving comfort food with a gourmet edge.

Preparation

  1. Cook the Ribeye Bistek

    • Combine Knorr Liquid Seasoning, garlic, pepper, sugar, chili flakes, and calamansi juice in a bowl.
    • Add ribeye steak and marinate for 20 minutes.
    • Heat oil in a pan. Sear marinated steak on both sides. Remove steak and let rest.
    • In the same pan, add remaining marinade and onions. Cook for 1 minute.
    • Add water and simmer until flavors meld.
    • Stir in butter.
    • Portion steak and set aside for assembly.
  2. Make the Sautéed Spinach

    • Heat oil in a pan.
    • Sauté onions and garlic.
    • Add spinach and sauté for 2 minutes.
    • Season to taste with salt and pepper. Set aside.
  3. Assemble the Bistek Sandwich

    • Spread sautéed spinach on the sourdough slices.
    • Top with ribeye steak slices and bistek sauce with onions.
    • Layer kesong puti on top of the beef and place under the salamander or broiler to melt the cheese.
    • Garnish with crispy onions and spring onions.
    • Drizzle more bistek sauce over the sandwich.
    • Serve immediately.
